About Me

My photo
I'm a bit of a born-again wargamer! I played many of the Games Workshop games when I was in my teens and early twenties, but left the hobby behind when I went to University. Over the last few years I have gradually got back into it and am literally having a ball! I'll play pretty much anything now, ranging from ancient historical to the far future! I think that I get more out of the painting side of things than actually playing, but that might just be because I get more opportunity. Hence the title...this blog is all about the colour of war!!

Reflections and some Vikings

Happy New Year! Well, the past year wasn't really a stellar one for me. Real life really threw a few curve balls my way and I am actually glad to see the back of 2011. Worst of all was the loss of my mother to cancer coupled with a few rough months at work, but through it all I found that this hobby helped keep me sane as it was a nice constant through all the turmoil. I've always found painting to be very relaxing and I can forget all the troubles for that couple of hours, so that has been a real help in 2011. That's why, over the middle of the year the blog saw posts about painting individual figures rather than units. I just didn't have the energy or focus for painting mass blocks, so I concentrated on letting my imagination a bit more free with fantasy figures.

However, the last couple of months have smoothed out considerably and I got into a bit of a Viking groove and have painted a couple of units. This year I really aim to push on and fill out the Viking army to about 1500 or 2000 points in WAB. At the club, George has a large Saxon contingent and Graham is building a Norman list, so we should be able to get them on the table soon. Also, I want to complete the 15mm Republican Roman army I began so many moons ago. I've bought a bunch more figures from Essex and Magister Militum and should have enough for a 75 point Armati army. Further to that, I have always liked the aesthetics of ancient pike armies, so I will try to expand on my Seleucid DBA army and build that up to Armati strength, too. And through it all I want to complete my Malifaux crews. The core of Perdita's Guild crew is complete, but I want to add a couple of options and I need to finish the Resurrectionists. So 2012 is going to be a year of consolidation. The only new thing I want to start is 15mm Napoleonics which I got some figures from Santa for.

Oh...and I will try to get some more board gaming in. The past week saw about four games of CC:Ancients and I'd forgotten how good that is! I have my eye on at least another one, too, so watch out for that. But for now, here's the Vikings as they stand so far:
